On the hotel’s doorstep

Saint-Germain-des-Prés - a name that sums up the very spirit of Paris! For many centuries, the neighbourhood was centred around its abbey. The abbey was founded in the middle of the 6th century by the Merovingian King Childebert I and Saint Germain, Bishop of Paris. With its foundations dating to 543, it stands today as the oldest church in Paris, and regularly plays host to classical music and jazz concerts.

The Hotel Delavigne is just a 5 minute walk from the Place Saint-Germain-des-Prés and its famous cafés, Les 2 Magots and Le Flore. Here you can sit back on their terraces and watch the hustle and bustle of Paris. Nearby, the Paulowina-lined Place de Furstenberg is a real gem, housing the Musée Eugène Delacroix.

By the Seine, facing the Pont des Arts, the Institut de France, instantly recognisable thanks to its imposing golden dome, houses the five French learned societies (the Académie Française, the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres, the Académie des Sciences, the Académie des Beaux-Arts et the Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques). A bit further afield is the Musée d’Orsay. Internationally renowned for its rich collection of Impressionist art, it was conceived for the world’s fair of 1900. At the end of Rue du Bac, a charming shopping street in Paris’ 7th arrondissement, the famous department store Le Bon Marché and the Grande Epicerie de Paris are the perfect place for gourmets and shopping-lovers.

As you return to the hotel at the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, make sure to stop at the Église Saint Suplice, instantly recognisable by its two towers at the entrance, then take a well earned break in the Jardin du Luxembourg or go and visit the Musée du Luxembourg, housing acclaimed temporary exhibitions.
